Samantha Pynn: Summer Home

Designer Samantha Pynn is back for the second season of HGTV Canada's "Summer Home".  I've always loved Samantha's comfortable, coastal aesthetic.  It's effortless, relaxed, and can very easily translate into practically any setting.  Take this space for example

Samantha says, "I can imagine the entire space transplanted into an urban condo.  The floors would probably be dark hardwood or concrete and the walls would be painted drywall, but everything else could stay the same".  I can definitely envision this room in an urban setting.  Can't you?

Since this summer cottage was not winterized, hardwood flooring was out.  Using vinyl floor tiles, Samantha was able to achieve that rich hardwood feel without compromising the look of the room.  Vinyl has come a loooong way hasn't it?

Why not keep those antique pieces, and transform them with a little bit of paint and a fun pattern?  This little blue hutch is now a standout piece due to a fresh coat of blue paint and a touch of pattern on the inside.

This space is so airy, fresh, and has that lived in comfortable feel thanks to a mix of furniture pieces, textures, and touches of refreshing color.

Here's hoping we get to see her here in the US this summer!  Pretty please HGTV?

Guest post: Arcadian Lighting

Hello! I'm Jessica with Arcadian Lighting, a wonderful online source for beautiful and affordable pendant lights, wall sconces, and other light fixtures in all shapes and styles. Every day I get to write about the latest interior design trends, and I'm delighted to be guest posting for Angie today! A brilliant way to add color, pattern and texture to your home is with a mosaic tile wall. Mosaics have been used throughout history to depict stories and images, and the practice is still very popular today. I hope you find these modern mosaics as inspiring as I do!
Brilliant Mosaic
A few stripes of sparkling mosaic tiles give this bathroom a chic, beautiful atmosphere. A pale lavender wall color and bright pink accents make the room positively feminine.
Brilliant Mosaic
The colorful mix of mosaic tile in this bright bedroom adds plenty of energy to an already playful room. The matching shade of orange and green used throughout the room creates a cohesive design.
Brilliant Mosaic
I love the deep, dark shades of turquoise used in this dining room tile mosaic. The rich colors have a beautiful oceanic quality to them. The pendant light shade casts a warm glow on the room.
Brilliant Mosaic
Not all mosaics are created with glass or stone. This brilliant mix of raw forms of wood is a handsome cross-section of earthy, natural materials.
Brilliant Mosaic
This stunning mosaic wall features a dynamic Ikat pattern that is as glamorous as it is beautiful. The gold tinted mirror and wall sconces are great accents.
Brilliant Mosaic
The shimmering mirrored mosaic tiles completely transform this staircase into a chic eye-catcher. The sparkling tile certainly contrasts with the wood boards and bannisters.
Brilliant Mosaic
Mosaics do not have to be featured on only walls, as this charming blue bathroom tile illustrates. The speckled mosaic tiles create a watery illusion beneath the claw footed tub.
Brilliant Mosaic
The serene wave-like designs on the mosaic artwork in this bathroom is mirrored on the floor perfectly. The pale shades of blue fill the room with just a hint of calming color.

From a sketch to the store

Yesterday I posted the exciting news about the new designer collaboration with Nate Berkus at Target coming this fall.  It got me wondering what else Target had up their little bullseye sleeves for the summer.  Here's a sneak peek at some of the inspiration for a few of their new summer lines.

The collection has a very coastal inspired feel, rich in texture from ropes to shells, warm woods,  and colorful prints and patterns.

These are a few of my summer picks

Which one is your favorite?

Have you heard the news?

Target recently announced it's latest collaboration with talented (and oh so handsome) designer Nate Berkus on May 3rd.  Debuting this fall, Nate joins a growing number of designers including Thomas O'Brien, Jason Wu, and Missoni (just to name a few) who have created more affordable lines offering that true designer look for a whole lot less.  The collection boasts more than 150 home goods and accessories from bed & bath, to lighting and accessories.  And if you're at all familiar with Nate's HSN line, you know this collection is going to be good.  Here are a few pretties to get you excited for the upcoming launch.
I'm dying to pick up these decorative hammered brass bowls, and at $7.99-$14.99,  I can afford to take them both!

I love the pairing of these two throw pillows.  The navy ikat with coin tassel detail, and metallic gold stripe are a perfect marriage of relaxation with a touch of sophistication.

I love the decorative gold stud detail on this washed oak box.

So, what do you think?  Will you be picking any of these beauties up?  I know I will be!
